QCIC’s 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela Day

16 August 2022 · By QCIC

Nelson Mandela Day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010. On Mandela Day, South African citizens are encouraged to spend 67 minutes of their time in service of others in need. These 67 minutes signify the 67 years that Nelson Mandela spent fighting for justice, equality, and human rights for all.

On the 18th of July 2022, the Cape Town hub hosted a sandwich drive to honour Nelson Mandela Day. Our volunteering staff made over 300 sandwiches with various fillings, which were then donated to The Haven Night Shelter. The Haven Night Shelter is a homeless shelter in the heart of Cape Town’s CBD that offers temporary housing, social welfare services and rehabilitation opportunities to adults who are working hard to improve their living conditions and become self-sufficient.

On Mandela Day, we collectively achieved Goal No.2: Zero Hunger of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals that we have committed to executing as a business. We have aligned our sustainable activities to these goals so that we are contributing to a more sustainable future.
