Planning advice: Wood Wharf development
QCIC was appointed by Canary Wharf in the United Kingdom to provide planning advice for their Wood Wharf development.
Strategy/process taken during the project
We reviewed the sitewide master-planning strategy, assessing building massing, functional requirements, neighbouring locales, surrounding terrain and road geometry. Overall threats and risks, physical and sensory wayfinding, vehicular management and pedestrian movement and control were also considered.
Outcome
Once complete this in-depth analysis allowed us to optimise the overall security design by incorporating Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design as well as electronic and counter-terrorism principles.
Once complete, the analysis was presented to Canary Wharf and Metropolitan Police Designing Out Crime Officers for comment, feedback and approval.
“QCIC’s early planning advice ensured that a continuous protected boundary was defined, and that all individual system elements were not only unobtrusive while overt, but also aligned with aesthetic, functionality and performance requirements.” – Stuart Golder
